Road Lana I. Almansa to Cuenca at EveryTrail

0. Travel Madrid-Almansa.

As with any trip, the first step of a trip is placed on the starting point of the journey. This time I have had no major problems except a stressful time to take the bus. I leave on Saturday before Easter, the Southern Bus Station is chock-full with people leaving for the Mediterranean, and the bus is full. will finish out about 20 minutes late

bus company Alsa (Group Enatcar). no problem to take the bike (as always, with the wheels removed and put in a bag). Price: € 21.62 plus 10 € of extra for the bike. Travel time: 4:30 hours.

Accommodation: Hotel Los Rosales. € 27.54. To avoid problems booked in advance by telephone from home. It was where I found accommodation, hostels complete Almántica House and The Studio. Dinner menu (13.50 €) in the same hotel.

Home pilgrim:
- Almansa: Servants of Mary Convent (2 beds and shower).

Other Lodging:
- Almansa: Almántica House Hostel and Hostel Study.

tumbleweed rather quiet, the only difficulty of the high mileage (about 95 miles) that takes place mainly by tracks in good condition with almost no asphalt. Vertical content (about 750 meters) concentrated in the first half of the day, with two soft promotions -Sierra's Mugrón and Rope of Doubloons-without demanding slopes. The most problematic section of the river passing near Alcalá Júcar Jucar. Sections of trail on the descent, and sickle from Alcalá de Júcar to Las Eras, which may require us to put the foot down, along with loitering harsh slopes rising to the castle.

Almansa

Sunrise with fog will not lift until 10 am. The rest of the day it will be very good with little wind, fortunately long tail. From the hotel I go to Almansa center, the Church of the Assumption, where I will begin my Road Lana. The first kilometers are well signposted by the markings in the GR-239 Camino de Levante .

Almansa was abandoned by the roundabout on the old N-430 next to the Hotel Los Rosales, to cross under the highway, and follow the service road access to the knot of the population, where you take the Road San Antón work, paving to the Hermitage of San Antón.

From the chapel begins the climb (6.7 km and 180 m ascent) leads us to skirt the Sierra del Mugrón. After we left the Hill Colmenar Work the Way of St. Anton in arriving at a private farm. A few years ago the road continued through the farm, but now the borders flanked by lots of no trespassing signs.

Mugrón
Sierra

After the climb, under the Mugrón summit, descend to the Cañada del Charco, crossing the CM-3201 and before crossing the dismantled railway line, turn right heading north. Continue parallel to the path, now works almost do away with the signaling for a lane into disrepair, until a bridge by which we agree to El Carrascal. Here begins the smooth and gradual climb (25 km and 270 m ascent) that will take us across the mountains of Malafatón and Rope of doubloons.

the 700 meters from the houses we fork (signposted) which separates the Camino de Levante and the Wool Road and then turn right, taking the road of Montealegre CM will lead to -3201 by which we entered in Alpera . Pasodobles sound at full blast from loudspeakers installed in the belfry of the church. From here the signal is not as good but adequate. In the hot spots will be of great help to us squares painted blue (lack of yellow paint on the scallop and arrow.

Campos

De Fuentes Alpera up the road follows a series of farm roads to avoid the asphalt of the CM-3201 from the valley to the Rambla de los Prados and Cañada de Pajares. We must be careful as there is a deviation which may raise doubts. Cerca de La Laguna is a short stretch of road but then we to a track.

we definitely Sources in the company of the CM-3201 following the Way of Casas de Don Pedro Almansa (wide track with good sign) by Cañada de Pajares. When you reach a crossroads turn right toward a power substation (marked with a wooden pole), rising by Vallejo Way of the road until you cross the Cañada Real de los Serranos (step of passing herds from high to las vegas Júcar Valencia, Murcia and Cartagena), end of promotion.

Malafatón Forestry

We entered the town of Alatoz where Lana Road has a spectacular signage. Nice drop by Vallejo Hontanares following the Way of Alpera we leave to enter Alatoz . In the Plaza Mayor we find a monument to Santiago Peregrino I made in commemoration of St. James Partnership Meeting held in 2007.

Alatoz Leaving a farm road that leads to the Cortijo de la Gitana, where we joined our old mate CM-3201, to climb it and cross the Sierra Mackerel, entering the County Albacete Manchuela . At the end of the hill, left the road for a very rocky road lane leaving to our left (you can avoid continuing a mile down the road) and ends in a track in better condition. For the latter, we crossed several ravines in the shadow of the Sierra de Peñarrubia to the Corral de Enrique. On the Road Alatoz we Casas del Cerro.

In Casas del Cerro started one of the most striking sections of the day: la Hoz Júcar River as it passes through Alcalá Jucar. The descent to the river stretches of the trail includes Trialeras difficult road avoidable. Opt for the pavement, my recommendation is to go first to a small balcony that is in the village, and enjoy a breathtaking view of Alcalá and sickle.

Júcar Alcalá
Júcar Hoz.

The decline coincides with two PR Hiking Alcala de Jucar (Córdoba and The Chapel of San Lorenzo). The yellow arrows down by a bicycle path impossible, that can be avoided in part, following a series of z somewhat easier to do by bike, ending in the recreational area next to the river Jucar. Despite the difficulties, the panorama is worth the effort. Right next to the Roman bridge is the tourist office, and for those who want to stage finish, very close is the Hostal La Rambla.

Finished difficulties, and just lies flat on the Albacete, including dry fields and vineyards. Always on agricultural roads in good condition, well marked and avoiding the road. Eras Las Casas-Ibáñez a by Way of Alcalá of Casas-Ibañez Júcar to about Serradiel. And Casas-Ibáñez to Villamalea , following the CM-3201, first for his right to cross the road to Casa de Doña Anita and the Way of cones.

Lodging: Hostal Still Life. 25 €. Friendly and nice room. I sinned a little inexperience because he could have stayed in Casas-Ibáñez or continue to host Villarta pilgrim. Having closed the restaurant, had dinner at the Plaza Redonda Arrocería is in front. No evening menu, a la carte € 16.50 with a very rich spaghetti.

Home pilgrim:
- Alpera: City Hostel (ask for the mayor, soil and no showers, difficulties if it is a weekend or holiday).
- Alatoz: Home City Hostel "Casa del Maestro" (4 beds, hot shower, pregontar at City Hall).
- Casas-Ibáñez: Home municipal Red Cross shelter or transients (both in the bullring, beds, hot shower).

Other Lodging:
- Alpera: Stop and Pension Hostal El Cazador.
- Alcalá del Júcar: Hostal Plaza Brothers, Hostal La Rambla and Hostal Alcala del Jucar .
- Casas-Ibáñez: Hostal San Jorge , Aro's Hotel and Hotel Canitas .

quiet at Albacete and Cuenca, such as previous good agricultural roads (apart from a local stretch of road without traffic to Paracuellos Altobuey Campillo de la Vega) and acceptable signage. Distance less than 80 km., And cumulative altitude, 750 m., content. More broken profile, with a first part with a tendency to rise, but without any major port.

In preparing the route found different journeys made in sections Villarta-Farm Iniesta and Campillo de Altobuey-Monteagudo de las Salinas. I followed the road less marked and options. Leaving Campillo de Altobuey I followed the High Corral Road (no yellow arrows) that avoids some kilometers asphalt.

When I woke up I see that is quite cloudy, with low clouds, but eventually cleared throughout the morning. Today I will count on the help of the wind, something stronger than the previous day, but also to the southeast. Leaving

Villamalea and Albacete province following the omnipresent CM-3201, plain between vines and fallow fields, first by the Old Road to El Herrumblar The Herrumblar , then Iniesta Road to Villarta . In this last section I have a question because in a moment I lose the signal, something small for now, entering the road Villarta Most obviously, the Ledaña Road.

Cañada Real de los Serranos Villarta near

First place in doubt Farm Villarta to Iniesta. I found several options on the Internet ( lluis.sv connects with the CM-311; Mariano Vicente Tosta on the road and Villalpardo-Minglanilla), and over to leave Villarta lose the yellow arrows. So I decide to follow the track designed in house (from the information of the AACS roadbook Albacete).

Villarta Leaving the Path of Campillanos, and after crossing the ring of the CM-3201, connect with the Cañada Real de los Serranos, which will continue for 3 miles to the Corral de Herrera. During the tour I find any arrow that gives me enough peace of mind. A Villarta output in Humilladero, we passed the PR-CU 74 Pilgrim Road (linked from Iniesta in Sector 66 D GR).

Farm Road near Iniesta

Corral de Herrera in the way we farm on the left (northbound), which flows into the rail Straw. Near the eastern highway A-3, turn right to cross by Iniesta Road, which went into Farm Iniesta. On the edge of town, next to the gas station, you will find Hostal Pepe.

Missing or impracticable to Cañada Real de los Serranos, the route continues roads linking agricultural among crops, vines and a stand of oaks, to the northwest. Fortunately the whole section is clearly marked with yellow arrows. Pond Gazpachero past has had to change the itinerary (all tracks I've found do not follow the arrows for about 4 miles). About Castillejo de Iniesta, changes to address north to find a track in good condition and surrounded by almond trees that create a kind of corridor, which leads to the Houses of Matallana.

Matallana Homes Road

On the Road Matallana houses (more like a "pistorro") arrived at CM-211 road. The last 3 kilometers from the Corral de Mediamisa, are on the rise, one of the hardest of the day with 120 m. promotion. Cross the road and took a small road (traffic: a tractor) which leads to Campillo de Altobuey . On descent, take a shortcut arrows (lane rocky with stretches Trialeras) prevent a great curve, and upon entering the town, a dirt road on the left that goes next to the Convent of San Agustín.

in Campillo de Altobuey second point of doubt. All the tracks that I found thrown on the CM-211 by Almodóvar del Pinar, and the road book which I use as reference goes Paracuellos de la Vega, in particular road. As Villarta to enter Campillo I lost the signal. Finally I decide on the option Paracuellos de la Vega.

At the end of Campillo de Altobuey by road to Paracuellos, I see that the avoidance of the asphalt, High Corral Road (An airstrip near the road). Always follow the arrows (there is on the edge of town) and now I am separated from them ...

High Corral Road. Campillo de Altobuey

The track goes up the valley between crops and, after passing the houses of Corral Alto, we left a lane that ends up on the road. For the same we Paracuellos de la Vega, among the pines, after two short climbs (first on the slopes of El Atalayón and the second from the Arroyo de la Covatilla to Paracuellos). New

tranche difficult path but an amazing place. Paracuellos de la Vega dominates a small sickle made by the Arroyo de Paracuellos. From the village, hard to find the little path (I asked a fellow and he said he could not get off) coming down the ravine. Although almost lost and closed by vegetation (foot tranches, p ou be better to use the mushrooms that go towards the castle ), the path leading to the runway ends obviously runs in the background, connects with the road CUV-5042. The simplest is to follow the road (no local traffic) from the village. If you do, do not miss the lookout before the castle, or maybe not even see him.

Paracuellos
Castillo de la Vega

After crossing the stream, continue along the road CUV-5042, amounting to bridge the gap of the ravine, leaving after about 2 miles to continue on a track that goes left. El Camino de las Salinas runs through pine Paracuellos the Barranco de la Honcenilla and Maria Vallejo, and down to Las Salinas.

Maria Vallejo. Road to Las Salinas

is short to reach Monteagudo, with the Arab castle in sight. We crossed under the CM-2153 and embark on the final hill climb of the day for the people. If our choice of accommodation is the Hotel El Romeral, this is before entering the village, on the right side of the road.

comes a time of uncertainty to find a place to sleep. The hotel is a bit expensive so I try fortune with the host. In the Bar La Muralla wonder, and just agree that the person who holds the key was there. So everything was really easy.

Castillo de Monteagudo

Accommodation: Welcome municipal social center (floor and bathrooms). Very nice family running the Bar El Castillo, the person who has the key and the ladies who was active in the community center. There is a hotel but it is expensive (50-85 € single room) and is out of town. Dinner at the Castle Sandwich Bar. There is a shop that opens 3 days a week (not found) but it may coincide with a street vendor with his van.

Home pilgrim:
- Villarta: Home municipal social center (floor and bathrooms).
- Paracuellos de la Vega: At the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace to about 2 km from the village.
- Campillo de Altobey: Reception at the Sports City (ask at the town hall).

Other Lodging:
- Farm Iniesta: Hostal Pepe .
- Monteagudo de las Salinas Hotel El Romeral .

very quiet, with less than 50 km and 350 m. ascent to arrive early and visit the city of Cuenca. All for good except the entrance door to Cuenca (taken with the traffic).

For the first time, when I wake up I see the sun. The morning is quiet meteorologically speaking for all the water falling in the afternoon, and tourism in Cuenca. Breakfast at the bar to meet the costs strongly hardest day Monteagudo is leaving to climb the Collado de Cuenca Monteagudo Road to Reillo.

Climbing the Col de Cuenca

takes the hill in left Navarramiro Road Monteagudo among vast pine forests, by will continue about 4 miles. At an intersection, arrows make us take a lane on the left in worse shape than falls to the Cañada Real de los Serranos. At this time we found a gate (I think that the Villa Navarramiro) with signs saying "Private Villa Denied" and "Closed Won Bravo Denied" which closes the canyon. With the obvious questions, but there are arrows and not lock, continued forward. Glen, Pedaling lane, which becomes good track to reach Navarramiro.

Pinares between Monteagudo and Navarramiro

Following a trail of access to the property (Camino de Monteagudo to Olmeda), flanked the entrance gate (no lock) and before reaching the road N-320, take a detour to the right that ascends to the Loma La Urbana. After a short llanea and after crossing over the tracks of the AVE, a short descent to Fuentes. First rapid to the Barranco de San Miguel (interrupted by a small ramp to overcome AVE second time), then reassured by the plain to enter Fuentes.

Sources along a trail that follows the valley of the Rio Fly towards the Laguna Strainer. In a small rise next to the Gallows Hill is able to distinguish the church of Atalaya de Cuenca, which arrived after the second last hill of the day (1.5 km and 70 m of ascent).

After surrounding the farm, continue along the Watchtower Basin Road to Mohorte and we are one of those inexplicable situations. The track disappears for about 500 meters occupied by a freshly plowed patch in the center are four large pines. Section needs to be done on foot, not without some difficulty, although it is easy to orientate, as only need to cross straight across field towards a signpost on the route the other side.

We entered the town of Cuenca where Lana Road is marked each distance with large wooden poles placed by the council. Smooth and the track continues between oak to Mohorte, and the plain of the River Flies to The Melgosa.

From The Melgosa, in 2004 signaled a new way (other than describing the guide published) flies over the river and, after following the N-420 for about Source address 350 meters, crossing the railroad tracks. A track parallel to the same leads to the N-320A for which Cuenca enter on the Range The Palancares. I'm not sure you have followed the right path and that before reaching Cuenca lost the signal. There may be a better way.

In Cuenca, after a long straight stretch along the old road to Valencia, taking to the streets right Ramón y Cajal and Towers, arriving at the Port of Valencia, about access to the historical. And more quietly, with little traffic and again following the signs for the Avenue of the ink reaches the Park the hole. Here the arrows up the stairs to the Hospital of Santiago. I speak to the pension, which is across Júcar in the neighborhood of San Antón.

Convento de San Pablo. Cuenca

After the shower and good food, devoting the afternoon to visit Cuenca. Visit afternoon interrupted by rain that leaves me concerned about tomorrow's weather, especially in the mud that I can find.
