De la Vega del Segura al Mar Menor.
Antes de ponerse pedaling touches to the point of departure. Travel by bus company Alsa (Line Madrid-La Manga). 5 hours and a quarter trip. Price: € 36.66 (26.66 € plus 10 € ticket to supplement the bike). The bike is packed as usual. I have no problems getting beyond the limited space in the trunk. The bus is almost full, so the trunk is also "stuck" for the many large suitcases. The bus station is fairly central Murcia.
Accommodation: Hotel 1 * Universal Pacoche . 25 € (single room). The cheapest option I found on the Internet. To avoid problems and have peace of mind I booked the room Infohostal (management costs € 3.40). Located in the Barrio del Carmen, near the Plaza Camachos, comfortable and spacious, have wireless at the entrance.
Other Lodging:
- Murcia: Pension 1 * Campoy, Pension 2 * I Hispano, Pension 2 * Murcia Youth Hostel Valley (10 Km by TransMurciana).

Description.
the day takes us from the capital Murcia, the Vega del Segura River to the Mediterranean coast on the border between the provinces of Murcia and Alicante near San Pedro del Pinatar, ending on the shores of the Sea Minor in Santiago de la Ribera. To do this we crossed the eastern foothills of the Sierra del Carrascoy .
varied landscape including the fertile valleys of the Segura, the mountainous terrain covered with pine forests in the Sierra de los Villares, the dry land crop plantations interspersed with almond Sucina citrus near Rambla de Rio Seco and the coast of Mar Menor.
To be the first day, stage almost 90 kilometers long, it will take me almost 10 hours. And last, with three ports, with all the accumulated slope in the first 50 miles. Fortunately, the harder the climb to the watchmaker, is the beginning of the day. It circulates primarily by tracks and lanes in good condition. It has a very nice stretch of road early in the Rambla de Rio Seco, Pinar de Campoverde.

Profile.
Chronicle.
In Murcia, took as part of the Plaza Cardenal TransMurciana Belluga front of the Cathedral, the heart of the city. Ahead more than 900 kilometers and the butterflies in your stomach to the start of all my travels. After crossing the Bridge of the Dangers (attention to the road) and get into the Barrio del Carmen. It leaves the city along the Calle Torre de Romo, who becomes after crossing Avenida del Progreso Ronda Sur. As we move traffic away from gardens to be nonexistent.

Catedral de Murcia. Cardinal Plaza Belluga. |
After a few meters along the Canal du Reguerón, turn left to ascend the road Fuensanta Sanctuary. We entered the Regional Park Valley and Carrascoy , begins the first port of day, at the crossroads of the Clockmaker, about 500 m. 10 km climb ramps first few hard to reach the sanctuary from which there is an excellent panorama of the city and vega. And among the pines, continue to rise, passing through the Hermitage de la Luz, to the Interpretation Centre Carrascoy Valley, opposite the ruins of the Castle of Light.

Murcia from Carrascoy |
A little rest, for from the Wildlife Recovery Centre with the Youth Hostel, starting the longest and toughest climb of the day the crossroads of the Clockmaker (4.8 km and 350 m climb 7.2% average gradient). The road, closed to traffic and asphalt to dry out the house, climbs the north side of Watchmaker to change of slope on a small hill crossroads of tracks. It should be a regular route between Murcia cyclists as I advance several up and I find a good group at the top.
Umbria Sanchez

From the hill you can see part of the route ahead. The trail descends a valley between the Sierra de la Cresta del Gallo and Umbria for Sanchez, with Columbares the front. As you descend change the pine for small gardens, and the runway pavement. The descent ends at the road link to the F-13 (traffic very poor) which amounts to the Port of Garruchal, second port of day. This road is the village of Port Garruchal natural step nomadic cattle into the fields of Cartagena. You can already distinguish the ocean beyond.

Columbrares from the Collado de Ginovinos |
descent in the road (no traffic), we find, in Riquelme, with a large gated golf short step, so you have to stitch it following a bike to go to La Peraleja, where you take a detour to the left by the F-20 to enter Sucina.
Sucina Leaving a track slightly rising land in the north. Columbares dominating the landscape behind us, cross several watercourses, including stains dry farming and almond trees, and rangeland dotted with pines, oaks and carob trees. The climb ends at the cross the Barranco de la Grajera, turning east, to spend a large citrus growing in the Houses of Strife, which leads to the first houses in El Pinar de la Partridge, in the province of Alicante .
|
Columbrares way Pinar de Campoverde |
Although the track of the TransMurciana is between the houses of El Pinar de la Partridge, a sign of "No Step. Particular Way "makes me take to the road A-353 carrying Pinar de Campoverde. Shortly after you leave the road to cross this big development along the main avenue. You see the influence of foreign tourists, as there are several real estate properties and bars offer "guiris" with English signs. Surprise find a brewery that could be on the streets of Dublin.
|
Rambla Rio Seco Trail |
At the end of the development, near the sports hall, is a recreational area where he started one of the more curious sections the day, Rio Seco path that leads from Pinar de Campoverde to Mil Palmeras. A trail follows the course of the Rio Seco promenade to its mouth. The most spectacular and eye-catching segment is beginning to encounter the Tajo-Segura. Va sandwiched between sandstone walls with curious eroded shapes and bright colors, sometimes by the same channel (problem if the river has lots of water), covered with vegetation. There are some meters that require technically very difficult to put the foot down but is mostly cyclable.
After passing the channel of the Tajo-Segura (there is a strong output ramp and a trail with handrails to return to it), promenade is wider, changing the landscape through citrus orchards. Section with strong bad and should be alert to signs to stay out of private land. Mil Palmeras here until you go through high reeds which reaches nearly to coat completely.

Rambla Rio Seco Trail near Mil Palmeras |
already close to the sea, after passing under the A-7 and N- 332 and get to the Private Mil Palmeras, from a recreational area the trail is lost a little, and should cross the avenue (to offer difficulties if it takes a lot of water) to raise the Private Rio Mar and continue along the promenade in Torre de la Horadada to the beach of Las Higueras. Soon you reach the cairn in the province of Murcia, and track, signposted GR 92, until the roundabout that leads to San Pedro del Pinatar along the Avenida de las Salinas (where the Centre Regional Park interpretation of Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro ).
Torre de la Horadada
|
At this point you can continue on the Avenue Puerto towards Lo Pagan (GR 92 marks, I'm wrong and I for a while) but TransMurciana the salt enters the bike lane Cotorrito Road that leads to the Port of San Pedro del Pinatar (signposted PR-65 MU Trail Weirs Mill to Quentin). It seems that there is a path between Playa de la Llana and salt, but being very sandy, it is best to take to the beach and follow it to Punta Algae. Heavy but perfectly cyclable stretch depending on the tides.
|
Sandy Lane by Manga del Mar Menor |
The Algal Punta marks the end of one arm which closes the sandy Mar Menor. Across the canal that feeds it, is the Venezolia and The Weirs, top Manga and the succession of hotels and residential developments, an example of unbridled tourism development has destroyed much of the Mediterranean coast. Turn round and specks of salt ponds and mud baths, to mills Knitter and Quentin, we arrive at Lo Pagan and promenade.
In Lo Pagan are several housing options, but even getting dark, to find the Hotel Alaska (the one at hand) closed, I choose to to Santiago de la Ribera. In winter the beach areas seem a desert with very few tourists, mostly foreigners, and many other advantage to close (on holiday or for reform). I'm going to "fly behind the ear" just can not find where to sleep. Along the port there are several places to stay and find some.
Lodging: Hotel 1 * Madrid . 29 €. After meeting two other accommodations closed, including my first choice (Pension La Obrera), I find the Hotel Madrid fair opens today. I decide I do not seek to secure and more. After showering and relaxing and I find that less than 50 m from the Board Trite (it seems to be a good choice). The hotel is located in the commercial area of \u200b\u200bSantiago de la Ribera with a good range of amenities (supermarket, shops and tourist office.)
Other Lodging:
- Lo Pagan: Pension 1 * Katherine, Alaska Hotel 1 * 1 * Hotel and Arce.
- Santiago de la Ribera: Manida Pension 2 *, 2 * Pension Workers and Pension 2 * K-Hito.
