Profile.

Stages.

stage design has been influenced by several factors: my fitness was not very fit at the start of the route), the places we wanted to visit, the limiting factor of traveling with the weight of the bags, but above all, the possibility of accommodation and the few hours of light (at this time begins to get dark about 18:00).
Although very personal, I am generally happy with the way have been, but always be improved. I would have liked to have more time to visit Cartagena calmly and Yecla. Stopping in Caravaca de la Cruz condition some stages long and hard. Another option is: Sabinar-Totana-Bullas-Calasparra-Archena.

Source: Route designed by Association of Friends of the Bike BICIMUR Murcia, without whom there would been possible. The web TransMurciana be able to find information (description and tracks) to make the entire circuit. In addition to the main itinerary includes other feeder lines that organize the route in terms of days that are available.
Longest Day: distance has been in Jumilla-Fortuna, 95 miles. Time was Murcia-San Javier with 7 hours of pedaling.
Best day: is difficult to keep one as they all had something special. I'll take two: Sewer-Calasparra, by the variety of terrain and landscape of the Vega Segura, Cieza fields, the mountain pine Almorchón and the Sierra de la Palera, and Puerto de Mazarron-Aguilas, for driving the sea visiting remote coves in one of the natural landscapes of the coast Mediterranean.
Worst day: There has been no particularly bad day.
Worst headache: Organize phases according to the available accommodations. There are many cottages offer but are not viable traveling alone.
Mayor error: The "just in case." Along with something else, I loaded sac and I did not use insulation. Although it was not really serious, I have not been happy with the division of some stages.

unexpected surprise: Murcia. Once we accept that we will not find rain forests, waterfalls and rivers, amazing landscapes, unaccustomed to-semiarid Mediterranean environment. Moreover, the path is very varied. Major mountains covered by pine forests, rugged coastline dotted with creeks, gullies, old mines, esparto and rosemary, planted fields with olive and almond trees and fertile valleys.
miss: A good companion with whom to carpool.
Physical problems: An uncomfortable pain in the Achilles heel of the left leg for several days.
Mechanical problems: None. Not a single puncture. Technological Rather: I lost my odometer (dead batteries), solved with the help of GPS, the camera had a small bug (a troublesome spot on all photos), fixed at home with the help of Photoshop, the mp3 refused to recharge, not why, and thought during the tour that I kept the GPS tracks, luckily I saw that home was not.
Accidents: None.

Orientation: The gps has been a great help (a Garmin Vista HCX with Topo Spain loaded). Except for some minor modification, the tracks downloaded from the website of the TransMurciana have been very reliable. As a complement, I prepared a small printed guide with information on the web that has been very helpful. In addition, many of the sections are labeled as GR, with the red and white, as Paths of Vera Cruz and and GR 7 GR 92.

Accommodation: It was always in hotels, hostels and pensions, trying to choose as far as economically possible. The cottages are discarded traveling alone. Only three times has been: hostels in La Almudema and Caravaca de la Cruz, and camping (I slept in their huts) in El Berro. There are areas where it is not so easy to find accommodation because there is very expensive (hotels, inns or cottages), or because it is not accessible to the individual level (some towns have shelters but only for groups). You can find a complete listing Lodging (hotels, houses, camping and lodges) in the province of Murcia on the web Murciaturistica .
Power: always carry a light for the path (dried fruit or energy bars). Always as well once a day (lunch or dinner menu), for the rest shot supermarket. To carry a Camelback water 2 liters.

baggage weight: Saddlebags: 10.7 kg Bicycle: 14.3 kg

Trip Round Trip: Alsa Bus Company .
Meteorology: I've had really good luck with the weather, because during the two weeks have seen a strong anticyclone over the peninsula. Clear skies, not a single drop of rain and warm. Although he has done something cool in the morning and at night (minimum of 5 degrees, maybe something less in the highlands of the interior) at noon the weather was pretty nice (maximum of 15 º and 20 º). The only negative: the early-morning fog on the day I went to Sierra Espuña, and the last day, with a strong storm crossing the peninsula, a little rain at night and a squall in the morning.
Roads: All types of land, mainly track and rail. There is virtually no road traffic, and asphalt tracks are stepping up to land local roads paved or deserted. Please note the dates, because in summer and in the coastal area may be somewhat different. Although courts generally are in good condition, the type of substrate and the abandonment of its use, determines that there are enough sections uncomfortable, hard and stony. Sections of trail, especially on the coast, quite technical and difficult. Complete the tour: the Northwest Greenway and the Green Corridor of the River Segura.
Relief: not going to find big and large ports, which does not mean that there are no hills. The move by the coast, was for me one of the hardest, with constant ups and downs including ramps challenging but short, with the added difficulty of including sections of trail. Inland, the profiles are smoother, with tumbleweeds and steeper areas lying. Therefore not allowed to climb, with mountain areas as Carrascoy Revolcadores, Espuña Almorchón and Sierra de la Pila.
suitable season: Spring or autumn always avoid the heat. Winter is also a good choice, for good temperatures but with the condition of the few hours of light and cold in the interior highlands.
Some considerations for cyclists must take into account the weather. In much of the route, the type of soil, clay and loam, it makes the slightest rain can turn into a living hell tracks mud. Las Ramblas, where severe storms may be impractical. The route runs through areas really lonely, where many kilometers is not any kind of foothold, so to be organized very well and above the water supplies.

Useful Files: To carry out the trip, I prepared a series documents and files that can be useful for future bikers to be making the trip. You can download Megaupload . These include: a general map (TransMurciana.jpg) obtained from the web Cartomur , a brief guide to the route description (TransMurciana.doc) corresponding to the information in the web of TransMurciana ; a list of accommodations (Alojamientos.doc) obtained from the web Murciaturistica ; general maps to carry on the handlebars (Mapas.doc) obtained from the web Cartomur , profiling all the way (Perfiles.doc) that I bring in my travels, made of CompeGPS Land, and the gdb file (GPS TransMurciana.gdb) carrying loaded into the GPS as a reference during the journey, including tracks and the location (more or less fortunate) in many quarters.
